Sponsor a Child Today

THE CHILDREN

For less than $1 per day, you can provide an education, school supplies and uniforms, food, medical supplies and spiritual encouragement and discipleship for orphans and vulnerable children in need around the world. 100% of your donation of $25 a month goes directly to your selected child.

Some of the children assisted by Forgotten Children International are the children of temple prostitutes. Some of the children have been displaced to the war in Northern Uganda. Many of these children have lost one or both of their parents. Other children are the victims of AIDS - either their father or mother or both have deceased. Yet others are simply abandoned.

Whatever the scenario, the children are hurting and are in need of clothing, shelter, love and especially the knowledge that they matter - especially to God.

What is sponsorship?
Sponsorship is a method of caring for orphans and vulnerable children in need around the world. 100% of your donation of $25 a month goes directly to your selected child. Your sponsorship will provide an education, school supplies and uniforms, food, medical supplies and spiritual encouragement and discipleship. In many cases, your donation provides for a better quality of life than what they would be able to have without your assistance.

How long will sponsorship last?
Sponsorship typically lasts until the child leaves the program usually around age 18. If a child goes beyond secondary school, sponsors will be given an opportunity to extend their sponsorship, but this is optional. Occasionally, sponsorship ends for positive reasons, such as the family is able to afford to care for a child and no longer needs assistance or they grow too old for the program. If either of these situations happens, you will be notified of the reason and another child will be recommended for you to sponsor in his or her place. You are under no obligation to accept our recommendation. Sponsors are welcome to choose another child to sponsor online in their place.

Can I write to the child I sponsor?
Yes. All of our sponsored children are able to receive mail but may not be able to speak English. We ask you to write a letter which our FCI partners will translate and give to your child. As you can imagine, this is a very time consuming process. Because of this, we are unable to offer this opportunity more than twice a year. Here is the schedule we use:

  • March - Child to sponsor
  • May - Sponsor to child
  • September - Child to sponsor
  • November - Sponsor to child (With Christmas theme?)

To assist you in corresponding with your children, FCI will send you a form for you to write a note to your child and then mail it back to us. We will take care of the rest! It is that easy!!

Will I hear back from my child?
Yes, you will have the opportunity to hear back from your sponsored child twice a year. You should receive a letter or drawing from your child and also an updated photo.

Can I sponsor a child with friends or a Sunday School Class or Small Group?
Yes, sponsorship can be done by groups. It does help us if the payment comes from the same entity each month and that FCI is given one contact person name, address, phone number and email address for us to communicate.

What percent is used to benefit my sponsored child?
100% of your donation to FCI goes to caring for your sponsored child. Your generous gift will provide an education, school supplies and uniforms, food, medical supplies and spiritual encouragement and discipleship. A good education can empower them to escape poverty forever.

Can I make extra donations occasionally (i.e. Birthdays or Christmas)?
At this time FCI allows you to make additional donation for your child around Christmas time. Your Christmas donation will go toward a meaningful gift that your child will love.

What if my payment is late?
Please send your payment anyways as soon as you can, as we count on your donation to maintain a consistent level of support for your child each month. We will attempt to contact you via email if your donation is overdue. If an entire quarter passes without your donation being received, we may reassign your child to a new sponsor.

Can I choose the date I send my payments?
Sponsors have the option of donating monthly or annually. When sponsors begin setting up a child sponsorship online they will have the option of choosing one of three selected dates (2nd, 15th, or 28th) for automatic withdraw from their checking or savings account.

Will you send me a reminder when my donations are due?
Yes, electronic reminders will be sent out. IF, you do not have email, we will send out paper reminders. However, if you sign-up on-line at www.forgottenchildren.org for the Electronic Fund Transfer (ELT) from your checking or savings account of you pay automatically through your credit card, you will no longer need to keep track of when your donation is due. It will come out on the day you choose every month or annually, whichever you choose.

What happens if I fall on hard times, and I cannot continue my sponsorship?
If your circumstances change, we will understand. We may be able to reassign your child to another sponsor to elevate added financial stress on you. We simply ask you give us as much notification as possible. When your financial situation improves, we hope you will consider "being the one...to save a child" by sponsoring another FCI orphan or vulnerable child.

Are my sponsorship donations tax deductable?
Yes! Not only does 100% of your donation go directly toward educating, clothing and caring for the needs of the orphan you choose, but it is all tax-deductable.

What methods of payment can I use to sponsor a child?
We accept payments of credit card or Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) from either your checking or savings accounts. Payments may be made online at www.forgottenchildren.org. Checks are also accepted by mail. If possible, we would prefer you choose EFT payments, because it is less costly to FCI providing more resources for orphans and vulnerable children around the world.
