What is an Orphanage

Definition of an orphananage.
An orphanage is not an optimal environment for child development, but sometimes it is necessary in order to care for an abandoned child. FCI's philosophy is to pursue subsidized foster care as the first line of defense for the orphan. By this we mean that a child sponsorship provides for the physical and spiritual needs of the child, but in a home setting, not in an orphan home setting. A home setting, of course, is more nurturing and affirming for the child. This way a family that normally could not afford to "take in" another child is subsidized so that they can give individualized attention to the orphan.
