Forgotten Children Worldwide is proud to introduce our new CEO/Executive Director, Kody Kumfer!
This transition has intentionally and prayerfully unfolded over a five-year succession plan, leading to the retirement of our founder, Matt Hartsell. During this time, Kody has partnered with Matt and engaged with the organization’s evolution and expansion, making most major decisions as a team.
As he steps into this role, Kody said: “I am committed to faithfully stewarding the vision we have prayerfully built together.”
About Kody
Kody is a proud husband of 15 years and a father of four children. He and his family enjoy spending time together outdoors, exploring God’s beautiful creation.
Kody’s 11 years of experience in the banking industry continues to serve FCW well. He describes his transition to FCW saying: “Matt first introduced me to this mission in 2017 on my first trip to Africa and that experience changed my life.” Kody has learned and grown through this succession process, walking through pivotal moments in the organization firsthand.
After returning from his recent trip to India, Kody has had the opportunity to meet each of FCW’s nine indigenous partners. He has also witnessed the Uganda flagship ministry, Kipindi Mpito, transform from a bare field to a campus full of life, employing 49 staff members, serving young women, and empowering families throughout the community.
Continuing the Mission
FCW completes this leadership transition while continuing momentum on the five-year-plan, a plan that Kody, Matt, FCW staff, partners, and the board of directors created together.
Here are some expansions FCW has planned for the 2026 vision:
- Kipindi Construction–expanding the campus with a new vocational center, classroom spaces, and additional offices. These new buildings will allow Kipindi to serve the broader community more and provide the students additional resources for vocational training
- Emerging Leaders Program–providing real-world training for Kipindi alumni and T2S graduates. Similar to an internship, this position would include on-campus experience in social work, tailoring, etc. The goal is to build resumes and boost the market readiness of our graduates
- Employer Collaborations–partneingr with local employers for job placement. The goal is to develop a liaison between Kipindi students and employers and align vocational training with market needs. This initiative may include building relationships and hosting job fairs on campus.
- New Savings co-ops in Uganda–creating new savings groups that will include providing seed money to kickstart programs. These programs will in turn promote self sustainability and financial literacy.
- Trauma Informed Training for All FCW Associated Social Workers–equipping key staff/social workers with training from a trauma-informed specialist and lead to better understanding and strategies for helping families who have experienced trauma.
- Missionary Marriage & Mental Health Assistance Program–offering counseling experiences and annual marriage or personal development retreats for each missionary unit. These services will help prevent burnout and strengthen marriages.
- Continuing Education and Professional Development for Indigenous Staff–encouraging the indigenous staff and highlighting our desire for high standards of professionalism and best practices.
